Description
Epona was an Irish pagan goddess who was originally a protector of women, child birth and horses. Her cult was so popular it spread across Europe. She is the only foreign goddess to be included in the Roman pantheon of gods and even had a shrine in her honor in Rome. She is shown riding a horse because she also became a protector of horses and mules, one of the mainstays of the Roman Empire.
