Description
Sometimes called a Thor’s hammer, this Sami style cross is from Iceland, ca 900-1000. It was found in an area of Iceland settled by Sami people. In the year 1000 Iceland declared itself a Christian country. It was also proclaimed that Christians and pagans were not allowed to interfere with each other’s religious practices. It is possible that propaganda was not restricted by the proclamation. The original cross in the National Museum of Iceland was found near Vaalse, Falster, Denmark.
