A Chatelaine carried grooming and utility tools. This chatelaine is based on items found in western Finland between ~950 and 1100. The semi-annular brooch pin allows it to be attached in the historically documented fashion to the apron dress about 8″ below the tortoise brooches so they were easy to use. Currently chatelaines are often attached to a tortoise brooch.
Grooming tools, comb, sewing snips, small scissors, a small knife or a key to the valuables chest were often attached to a chatelaine. The grooming tolls are available singly or in sets in other listings on the website.
